Then there is self publishing. The very thing, well experienced writers tell me never to do. The market is flooded with bad reads. Self publishers don't do a good job of editing and supposedly spend a lot more money than they make, and blah, blah, blah... Amazon is the big name accepting most of those, and battling with other writers over fair fees. The big houses are in an uproar and no one wants to put anything on paper if its not going to sell. Everybody wants the E-story for Kindle, Nooks and iPads and other such electronics that leave no trace there ever really was a story. Give me an actual book, anytime.
So, I learned a great deal, I got an education, but none of it gives me any hope. If there is any solace in this it comes from that simple phrase, "Write for the love of the craft" Yes, because that's where the joy comes from and why do it, if I don't enjoy it? Yes, I am glad to say, "I just emerged..."
Two roads diverged into a wood and I took the one less traveled (by me) and now I am back. The Summer Writing Festival starts next weekend. There, I will immerse myself in the task of writing for the craft alone, learning new things and spending time with other writers.
I can hardly wait!
